Welcome to our Cinemasters Christmas Special. We take on the gargantuan task of covering 9 movies in the hour and a half of time we had to record on Christmas Eve. After plenty of technical difficulties we managed to squeak by in and hour. So hit play up top and away we go!
For my thoughts on the Hobbit take a look at my blog.
For Rudy Schuepbach's thoughts on Bunraku keep reading:
Watching a netflix movie that was suggested because I watched Lockout. A movie named "Bunraku". The title hints at a japanese puppet theater. What it actually is, is a hyper stylized action movie.
The aesthetic uses a lot of Japanese and Wild West fusion, with heavy color saturation, and extreme lines. Our two heroes are literally (as in, they say this in the movie) a cowboy in a world with no guns, and a samurai without his sword.
I was drawn in by the visuals immediately, and though there were some slow moments in the story, the battles with the bad guy's generals, "The Killers", and other action sequences are actually really cool. There are some lines and dialogue that are trite and stereotypical, but if you're coming to this movie as a vehicle for action and fight scenes, it's exactly what you're here for.
Bottom line: Equal parts Cowboy Bebop/Samurai Champloo, set in a visually stunning popup book background, worth a watch. Don't come looking to be changed, or moved, but if you're into anime, and want to know it's live action potential? This is as close as I've seen, including the actual attempts (i.e. Last Airbender, Dragon Ball, and Matrix Revolutions). Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson, Ron Perlman. I'm surprised, and happy.

Thanks to Rudy for that. During my browsing of the internets the last few days I came across the
Home Alone Drinking Game which I will definitely be partaking in next year. So yeah. Thanks again for listening. Check out our other podcasts on the right hand side and feel free to donate to help offset the cost of the podcasting.
